General Overview on Lead Study
Lorelei Ford, WSA
In 2024, WSA initiated the Provincial Lead Study to evaluate lead concentrations at consumers’ taps with lead service lines. Prior to adoption of federal drinking water guidelines, WSA evaluates the current state of drinking water quality in priority waterworks with the highest probability of being impacted from an economic and human health perspective. Currently, the Saskatchewan Drinking Water Quality Standards and Objectives for lead, from a fully flushed faucet (end of tap), is 0.01 mg/L. This is applied as a standard for municipal waterworks through The Waterworks and Sewage Works Regulations and the Permit to Operate, where applicable. The presentation will provide an overview of the study approach, observations, and preliminary results as compared to the proposed federal drinking water guideline of 0.005 mg/L.

Determining Facility Classifications
Jenna Furseth, WSA
Facility classifications determine the level of certification required by operators at waterworks and sewage works. These classifications range from a class one (1) facility being the simplest to a class four (4) facility being the most complex. In Saskatchewan, facility classifications are determined using the international point classification system. The classification process assigns a point value to various components of the water or sewage treatment facility based on their complexity. Learn more about how facility classifications are determined using the point classification system.
